Basically, I'm almost all self taught, and can't read notes anyone who reads my practice diary - you're welcome to leave tips etc anything to improve my musicianship is awesome, I really want to learn to read drum music. That being said, obviously I play everything by ear, and since I started drumming (13 years ago) I've always had an excellent sense of rhythm and time, and can pick up odd meters very quickly, even if I'm not sure how I should be counting them all the time haha
Unfortunately I can't afford a metronome, and my kit and equipment are miles from my houes, so I get like...a 4 hour session on my kit every 3 months or so - so 16 hours a year basically sucks
I have a shitty ass practice pad at home which I use most of the time, but when I actually get to my kit I don't really implement rudiments or warmups or any cool little exercises because, after 3 months in such a short time all I wanna do is groove out haha.
Predominately I lean toward death metal drumming - blastbeats, double bass, fast shit as a preference but I am very partial to everything :D all aspects of music inspire my playing, I love single pedal grooves.
Recently though I have been working on blastbeats, I'm a pretty able blastbeater and use several techniques. The one I struggle with, much like everyone, is flying fingers, though over the last few days through persistance I've gotten extremely tight and am very pleased =D my right hand has gotten a lot better, very happy about this.

That is awesome dude, you should put a picture of your kit on when you get all your new shit. That sucks you don't get to practice very much. You said you didn't know how to sight read or read notes i suggest you go to a music store and get some books on reading music that could possibly help. Thats how i learned too read is from books
Keep rockin

wow a lot's changed since my last post haha - all that money went on a fucked up holiday that I wish hadn't happend haha.
ANYWAY! Got to practice today, almost brought a tear to my eye! I'm actually really proud of myself, I'm so jealous of all the people I know who can go see their drums whenever they want and play everyday. My breath gets taken away everytime I see mine, forget how beautiful they are! haha
But yeah, because I only get to "air practice", not even allowed pads for the love of fuck! This is such bullshit, as soon as I have children of my own I'ma let them actually play their fucking instrument. Guh, bullshit. But the pride is due to being limited to this shit, and yet when I get to play my kit (like today!) I still tear it up! My stamina's improved greatly, I can play songs today that 3 years ago I wouldn't dream of attempting; Very proud of this Can't wait till my next practice, my detonators were just begging to be played today haha
I finally took time to experiment with my 13" Mastersound hats today as well, never really appreciated them much as I don't really have time to "waste" when I get to play; it's in, setup at the speed of light, play for 2-3 hours, break it all down again and get picked up to go home. But they are really nice hi-hats, I recommend them to anyone who prefers smaller sizes - I got mine in brand new condition from a previous owner for like half price haha ownage!
Now saving to replace all my heads, a rack and two cable hihat setups. Figured triggers are the last thing I need from the list really, especially with the power I was hammering out today on my tricks - I hit harder with these fuckers than I did with my cobras, with half the effort, it's like gliding on air haha
UNTIL NEXT TIME PRACTICE JOURNAL, GOODBYE! |

Birthday in 2 weeks - could be an easy way to get those two Yamaha kicks I want haha
That aside - at uni in september, so I'ma start a little search for musicians to play techdeath with! This county needs a decent band for fuck sake.
I'm getting to drum tomorrow, so I'ma try and attempt a bit of heeltoe Falk-style. It's a really good tool to utilize in your drumming arsenal, and it's one I have never tried or acquired, so time to give it a shot if not, I'll hassle Longstretch about how he does his doubles |
