I use hybrid technique for blasting - combination of wrist motion and fingers. Since I've been using it (about a year) I've increased my stamina and power like tenfold - I think it's quite important that some the newcome blasters take an interest in it, as I know how frustrating it is when you just can't seem to get it. It'll help you;
a. blast easier, less effort to get that bounce you want and still be able to flow into fills nicely
b.) not hurt yourself!! balance the use of your muscles instead of straining your fingers and/or forearms.
at least, that's what I've found
Mr Grossman has just done a brilliant lesson for sickdrummer, which I think is a very good starting point for those wanting to learn this helpful technique

Same here.
I'm all about playing comfortably, and that seems to be the best way to do so when playing faster stuff. |

And the fixed link is, in typical STU fashion, messed up. |

i was used to play only with fingers, just came back from practising after watching the video of hannes demonstrating it.
DAMN, i love it, i got so much more endurance and punch. next step will be to build up insane speed with that much stickhight!

Hey guys....don't let the thinking that higher stick height has anything to do with 'power" or "volume".
Force is the key word and, you don't need height.... to get force.
Anybody remember this?.......

I think the reason why a lot of people like stick height is because it's really cool to look at someone go so fast while blasting with the stick being that high. At least, that's why I like stick height.
With Derek's thing about force, I'll use a Marthus video to show it.

Great video. I realize I do this whenever I try to do moeller. My wrist popping gives it the power for the accent and the fingers keep it going. You can really tell in his playing when the wrists kick it. The "climax" as he says really stands out. |

Mr. D, do you think the same holds true with the kick beaters? - not needing a huge 6" swings to get enough "Power" out of your strokes? |

That's kind of different though. You're going to get a harder hit with a bigger swing on a pedal with less effort, but less speed. The opposite is if you have a small swing; weak hit but high speed. Beater weight figures into it too. |
