I've been listening to I Monarch a bit and I'm thinking that the fill blast from Two Demons in the section around 1:45 is the most crazy blast I've heard. It sounds like two snares going (foot snare or ribbon crasher combined with snare?) but there is something otherworldly about that blast. You can hear the cymbals going at the same time, I can't figure it out. Anyway, that's the coolest blast I've heard in AGES that is just a blast |

I think Derek is incorporating the small snare he used to keep to the left of the hi-hats on that part. It sounds like he's moving the right hand part between the hi-hats and main snare, while hammer blasting on the smaller snare with the left hand. Of course I could be wrong on this, I've never seen it played live except when Reno Killerich attempts it on The Perilous Fight (and does a pretty damn good job I think!) |

Cheers brotha. Yo...it was good to meet up in Sydney as well.
We'll do it again.
That part has left hand on the 2nd snare, The right hand plays....
the hi hat/ main snare back beat/ floor tom plays the one (as if it was a kick)/ crash cymbals.
DB is in there....of course!
That was on youtube at some point. I have the video somewhere around here. I'll post it up after I nap from being in Aussie for 3 weeks! Haha.

LOL the aux snare sounds so intense, I didn't realise it was the secondary. I can actually hear all the sounds happening now - the floor tom really pushes the blast forward, and creates that little bit of extra something during the groove. I think this blast is exactly why you need to push yourself as a drummer, and why humans sound better. That tiny delay between the floor tom and hihats after the 1 creates accents on the hihat which just makes it so much more interesting to listen to... it's like the Portal effect; they overplay the hell out of the riffs and it creates that lovely overpowering sludge which is just so awesome for fans of extremity
Looking forward to catching up again. Hope Melbourne was good! |

Malevolent Creation's "Preyed Upon" and Deicide's "When Satan Rules His World" come to mind as far as a blast being used in a very tasty manner, and being placed right at the perfect point in the song. |
