Recently got this M birch as my first real set I guess I can say. I've been playing for about 4 years. On others people kits and practice pads Sad I know. First kit I got was a piece of doo doo junior kit when i was 12 and i bent the 6 inch crash cymbal the first day. Anyway. So here is my set.
Next item is hi hats. Borrowing my friends shit tama hats.
Now questions. Do you recomend 13" AAX fusion hats. Or meinl byzance 13" Brilliant or traditional also? Oh also any tips on getting the cymbal arms perfectly flat on a round rack like this?
Thanks guys. |

Whichevers cheaper lol When you get to that high in price for cymbals, the highend similar lines are all basically nice sounding whatever you get. |

Sound. Try them. If you can't try them personally, at least have a listen on sabian.com and meinlcymbals.com. They are all there recorded.
Why do you need cymbal arms flat? Looks? I wouldn't care about that if I were you. You're gonna have a hard time achieving that because as you can see you'd have to get the rack higher and then toms would be too high.
Anyway cool kit. I wish my first kit was M Birch. Not even my second kit is that good. |

Yea i'm going to try to take a listen. This isn't my first set. My first set was a really bad junior kit. My second set was a Sound percussion 4 peice kit. Both very bad. I said this is my first "Real" Set. |

DUDE DO NOT EXPECT US TO ANSWER THAT.
Something like a hihat (the most regularly used cymbal in any rock based music style) is incredibly personal. It's like asking should you buy a Strat or a Tele. They do the same job, but you KNOW they do it differently.
I would lean towards a Sabian/Zildjian because the rest are all that Sabian/Zildjian style (as opposed to the Paiste style). But ultimately, it's totally up to you. I started with Paiste Signature 13" Dark Crisps copying Derek's old setup. Anyways, that didn't work out for me, because they have a terrible sloshy sound, and my style resembles Raymond Herrera meets Lars Ulrich, not Danny Carey meets Derek Roddy. These days I actually use a 13" Medium Signature turned upside down, to get the massive attack of a "Heavy" hihat, without the sustain, and a 14" Medium mounted normally. My personal preference, the weights feel fairly similar, but the pitch is different. I also like the idea of my hihats being able to achieve "Normal" playing dynamics... heavy cymbals are so overpowering!!
So yeah. Stick with the crappy cymbals, have a think about how you actually use the cymbals, and whether you want a cast Sabian or a noncast Paiste sound. |

i tend to go with sabian since i can hear them in person, They are cost effective and quality cymbals and tend to be fairly durable.
I usually go with the AAX or AAXtreem, and some AA. I love the HHX too but its pricey and its kinda hard to just experiment with sounds on a budget.
I used to buy cymbals of all brands and mix them up but i found when recording it seemed better to have more of the same kind as they mix better.
Plus i played some shows with endorsed drummers and it was somewhat embarrassing having an eclectic cymbal setup right next to their shiney new all the same brand setups. So I've gone with sabian.
If i knew more about the Meinel or if GC would at least carry them so i can test it then i might consider.
When purchasing I suggest going to Midwestpercussion.com for excellent rates, and also cross check with ebay and such to try to get lucky as well.
до свидания ! |
