I personally, along with many others i believe, think that this is one of the definitave hand techniques, and nearly all drummers should at least have a basic understanding of it as it is sooooo helpfull in terms of dynamics and ergonomics!

For help with developing this technique i highly reccomend Gary Chaffee's books - "Rhythm & Meter", "Sticking", "Time Functioning", "Technique" and "Linear Time Playing". "Sticking" in particulair focuses on moeller and gives some great exercises to develop the motion and the technique.

I hope you give it a thorough go because it will pay off and you definately wont regret the time you put into it.

hey im new here but i learn from a very good friend of jim chapin and my teacher certainy knows the moeller technique, my best advise would to either get a book as suggested or go to one of jims clinics, where u suld recieve a hand out which will tell u everything u need to know, i HIGHLY recomend the technique, unless you have very fast fingers already, its so much less effort, but theres alot more to it than jojo mayor talks about and tony royster jnr, but yer see jim chapin hes on drummer world but only does a short demonstration u rele need to go to a clinic, sorry for rambling on lol

I'm pretty sure Jojo Mayer uses the push/pull or open/close technique, not the Moeller. The Moeller stroke is using one stroke and two rebounds (or three rebounds) repeatedly. There's a great video in this forum somewhere, I'll try to dig it up.

I saw a video where he showed push/pull and said he doesn't really use that. Only occasionally when he wants to get attention. He could joking though... I don't know.

YES deffinitely, a gd excersise for the left hand is to play a paradiddle in three four, sixteenth notes for one bar and then sixteenths with just the left hand, if u didnt get that cos it was explained badly then just practice constant sixteenths or triplets with only the left hand, once ur comfortable with that u can try counter rhythms with the right hand while keeping the left hand going, try it its fun trust Smile
